Manila Comics Fair

Manila Comics Fair is a small independent comics support group focused on community building efforts and events brought to you by Rob Elle and Diigii

The first Manila Comics Fair was held on May 25, 2024 at Comuna. Inspried by Manila Illustration Fair and Type Fair PH.

MCF 2024 was composed of a comics market, workshops and talks focused on comics development and sustainability, and a comics community table patterned after the zine community table in BLTX, a zine fair.

MCF is continuing its efforts to support independent publishers, comic creators, and the community by putting up smaller satellite events such as Make A Scene and Kittybug and Friends.

Brand Development

(Made with help thru consultations from Jamie Cabatit on the initial Branding and Carry Server on Messaging and Branding)

The idea started with the basic building blocks of what composed a comic, the panel.

(what is seen here are my notes I made on a whiteboard canva, I’m being very vulnerable right now)

Developing on Initial Directions on what I wanted to say with the Fair where it was focused on the craft of making comics, and utilizing the idea of comics as part of the logo design, started with 3 possible directions for the logo.

Eventually just kinda took from each of the possible directions:
- the treatment for the lettering in pastels, utilizing the 4 panel grid traditionally used in comics
- the potential of a panel in showcasing the way you can tell a story, showcase an artist and their work, and the flexibility of it to be used for future MCF events.
- the CMYK 4 color printing method used in old comics
